Have you ever had medical records thrown at you? Silvia Aninye has. She is a California-based LNC with a specialty in observing defense medical examinations, and she shares some of the unique challenges involved in this field.
Though technically this is an observer role, in practical terms, the LNC acts as the plaintiff’s advocate. This is often needed in situations where physicians hired by the defense attorney or insurance company come in with an intention to dispute or diminish the extent of the plaintiff’s injuries.
In some states, the LNC must also prevent the doctor from asking questions outside the range of examination, such as personal history, employment details, and other excluded area. In addition, she must also defend her right to be present.
The conscientious LNC preps the plaintiff prior to the exam, explaining what will happen and describing the personality of the doctor. Silvia shares some fascinating characterizations of the passive-aggressive and the actively aggressive doctor. Included among them is the story of the hurled medical records. In the area of defense medical examinations Silvia has established herself as the go to expert nurses attending defense medical examinations. A great number of attorneys have sought the advice of Silvia Aninye regarding defense medical examinations. Silvia Aninye has educated both attorneys and nurses on the rules about defense medical examinations. Silvia Aninye’s background in nursing is in Med Surgical and Workers Compensation and med malpractice review.
