490 Analyzing Wound Care Cases and the LNC – Rebecca Corbett

Whether the patient’s setting is a nursing home, hospital, or their own home, wound care and prevention and care forms a primary aspect of treatment. Rebecca Corbet, wound care expert and LNC, shares with you both the optimal ways to preserve skin integrity and the standard of care for treatment of wounds.

That treatment begins with a thorough physical examination and a detailed medical history and demands equal meticulousness during the course of wound treatment. Rebecca provides the details of what is required.

She emphasizes that wound treatment calls for interdisciplinary treatment. Diet and the charting of nutritional intake is critical. Vascular and other tests may be indicated. An LNC needs to document the kinds of tests administered. Rebecca recommends that the LNC pay special attention to the medication records, saying that they contain a lot of valuable information, since they often reveal discrepancies.

She also takes up practical issues, such as preventing wounds through the use of surfaces that protect vulnerable body parts and recommends some specific products for this. Because wound care involves the participation of a range of professionals, it provides a particular challenge to LNCs. Rebecca’s thorough guide to this subject will provide a thorough introduction to this complex topic.
